Damien nodded his head slowly, his hands delving down into his pockets. A deep look of concern on his masculine features. Rage welled up in his stomach again, head shaking. How could they do this. Jasmin had been under his protection. He'd given express commands that she was not to be touched or harmed.
Kestrel heard Pike's booming voice and in a quick and smooth motion she lowered Jasmin's sleeves, hiding her arms. She have her a gentle smile and then rounded on the guest, ready to give instructions on how long he was allowed to visit.
She came up short, suddenly facing down the face of the Capitol. Her words caught in her throat and her pale skin whitened even more. Damien Orsino. If he found out she was from the Capitol and deserting to Thirteen, she could be killed. She didn't say a word, moving to stand behind Pike quietly, heart pounding in her chest.
Damien moved over to Jasmin, kneeling down and cupping her cheeks gently in his giant hands. "Min..." His voice was surprisingly soft as his emerald eyes stared her down.

"Woah, calm down, sugar," Pike stroked a heavy piece of hair out of her eyes, "He won't do anything. He's soft for her... but who isn't?" He added jokingly, trying to stir a laugh in her somewhere. "Whatever you're scared over isn't gonna happen." He cooed, stroking his palm down the side of her face.
Jasmin all but lashed out as his hands captured her face. Even with Damien in close proximity, she was watching Kestrel and Pike with a soft, approving glow in her somber eyes. "Here, Damien, put your hands down. My neck is still sore." She lied, just to get his hands off her face. Her gaze finally halted on him. She couldn't even lift her arms to nudge his hands away. "Whatever they told you, they were exaggerating. Look'it me. I'm oh-kay." She was starting to stress again. She wanted another shot of morphling.
"Pike, fetch me Delainey real fast..." He puffed out a sigh, pulling his hand away from Kestrel, looking pensive. He ducked out of the room, in search of the foxy brunette. She made him more than a little uncomfortable.

Kestrel took in a deep breath and let it out slowly, a sweet smile forming on her lips as she looked up at Pike. He always knew exactly how to comfort her. She certainly was comforted about Damien but if Pike said she was gonna to be okay then she would believe him. She nodded slowly, her features calming.
Damien frowned for a moment, his hands dropping away from her. He didn't say anything else till Pike had left. Kestrel lingered for only a moment before retreating after him.
The man stood, still frowning as he pushed his hands deep into his pockets. "I took your file, Jasmin. I know exactly what they did."

"I don't remember," Jasmin wrinkled her nose, "I don't.. I repressed a lot of it. I just remember seeing Nixon Rider, and then I felt strong. His expression gave me strength. I took his glasses.. Dr.Trundle, the scientist.. and I broke out the lenses. I took a piece of the glass and I slit his throat. And he watched - Nixon watched." She bobbed her head, eyes glowing with tears. "What did they do to me?" She didn't sound scared, just distressed and curious.
Delainey cleared her throat from the doorway. She was bouncing a syringe on her knee cap, her body leaned into the wall. "She looked pretty gnarly when we picked them up. We couldn't get her to talk for a few hours. She'd just nod or shrug, or even smile and act happy and all, but she sure did a number. Pretty clean cut." She poked her tongue out of her mouth and dragged her thumb across her throat, miming a neck being slit.
"Shut up, Delainey." The blonde said, but not with menace - just halfheartedly, like they were joking around. They'd bonded some in the days they'd spent together.
The ever-provocative brunette crossed the room, holding her hand out to give Jasmin the needle and syringe. Thinking better of it, she set it on the bed beside Damien and ducked back out.
"What did they do?" She tried again. Most of the damage done seemed to be physical so far.

Damien watched Jasmin for a moment, tempted to wrap her up in an embrace. He didn't though, weary of her reaction. He didn't want to push anything with her. When she started to question what had happened to her, he regretted saying anything about her file. He didn't want to be the one to tell her what had happened.
He opened his mouth to tell her when they were interruptered by the girl, Delainey or something like that. He frowned slightly at her and nodded along with her words. He hoped she didn't take it personally, normally he was very open and kind but circumstances were making it hard for him to be so.
"Well.. They tried to hijack you and then they performed all kinds of experiments on your senses and reactions. You weren't actually hijacked though so you didn't heal back the way you should have and you felt everything. I'm so sorry." He said, sparring her most of the details of what she'd endured.
Damien glanced down at the syringe, brows arching at Jasmin and then at Delainey. "Morphine?" He guessed.

Jasmin pouted, jutting her lower lip just for something to do as he explained, trying to keep herself occupied on more than just his words. It helped them sink in easier, rather than taking it in all at once. Her mind raced back several days, and she remembered whining and complete blackness, and then a drilling..
And then her mind pushed her back out, and she was back beside Damien. She'd barely caught his question about the syringe. "I-"
"Damien, if you let her do it herself, I will kick your teeth so hard your fancy insurance won't even cover it." Delainey quirked a brow back at him and flounced out of the room. She seemed to be making up for Jasmin's lack of pithy responses and overall extroverted mannerisms.
"What'd it say about Nixon?" Jasmin pushed, trying to distract him as she eased up her sleeve so he could inject the painkillers.
Delainey stopped at the back of the closed door, straining her ears as she heard her boss's name.

Damien rolled his eyes at the haughty girl's back, not minding so much now that he wasn't at his happiest state. As if he'd make Jasmin inject herself. When he'd been in the lower ranks, he'd administered enough drugs to comrades to kill ten horses. The Capitol dolled out morphine and morphling like a cure all drug.
He gently helped her to roll up her sleeves, a heavy frown landing on his lips at the site of the girls cut up arms. He uncapped the syringe and held it up right and tapped to clear any bubbles to the top, pushing out all the excess air which could stop her heart if it entered her blood stream. When there was nothing but medicine, he gently plunged the needle into her flesh, at her elbow was the skin above her vein was thinnest. He pulled the needle out and then wrapped a small bandage courtesy of Kestrel's bag around her arm.
He sighed and took a few steps back, broad shoulders shrugging. "Nixon wasn't mentioned at all. I had no idea he was involved until you said so."

Jasmin turned her face away. She'd always been a little squeamish around needles, and now was no exception. She rolled her hand into a fist and leveled her breathing. It was barely a pinch, and it'd usually never her do more than flinch, but she nearly jumped out of her skin. Any sensation of pain, even so brief, was an unhappy reminder of her earlier trauma.
By the end of his statement, she was smiling like he'd given her a gift. She seemed to be smitten with the Rider boy. He was dangerous and older and powerful... he fit in well enough to her lifestyle. Even though she'd seen him enough times to count on one hand in the past several months, she was slowly beginning to realize this was his life. She wouldn't be ruining any aspirations or stepping on his feet, or even endangering him.
You almost killed Felix. Your family is still gone because you fucked up, Jasmin, and Nixon can't heal that, and you even can't. You're never getting them ba- Her thoughts went from feral to a background hum within moments, and something flashed in her eyes. Her lids drooped slightly. "At least.. at least he's okay. Come sit, please. I need my big, tough teddy bear." She hadn't called him that in years. At least the morphling was bringing back fond memories. She almost sounded like herself, but more affectionate and definitely more open.
I missed you more than you'll ever know. Jewel too. Her mind whispered with melancholy.
Meanwhile, Delainey had upturned her lips in a smile as she listened to the news. She'd have something useful to report to Nixon for the first time in days. Even though she'd grown fond of Jasmin and vice versa, she didn't think her presence was really needed. Of course, she'd stay as a guest though. With all of the beautifully sculpted, uniformed soldiers running around, who wouldn't?
A hand suddenly grabbed her shoulder. Pike. "Go back to showing off to the uniforms, Delainey. They sure seem to miss you. I think they like having a girl in the mix," there were several women in the guard, but an outsider was different, "They don't see women much lately outside of work." He winked at her, clenching and unclenching his jaw as she walked off. He didn't quite trust her...
He headed back over to Kestrel, immediately snaking an arm around her waist, sneaking up behind her. He pressed a kiss just below her ear, teeth gently grazing her skin to surprise her. "Guess who?" He asked jovially.

Damien watched the passing emotions and thoughts flashing in the woman's eyes. He couldn't quite read them but he could see them flicker and fade as the morphling took hold of her. Whatever he'd said about Nixon had certainly thrilled her and he was okay with anything that put her at ease.
An unusually gentle smile landed on his lips and he sat down beside her, memories of their brief childhood together playing in his mind. He draped an arm around her shoulders, loose enough that she could shrug it off if she felt uncomfortable but tight enough that she could rest against him. The choice was hers, he didn't want to push her boundaries.
Kestrel was standing down the hallway, leaning her shoulder against the wall, waiting. Waiting for Pike to return or Damien to leave, either would put her more at ease. She was obviously tense still, her shoulders taunt as she picked uselessly at her fingernails.
She recognized Pike's touch, tensing for only a moment before relaxing back against him. A smile slowly melted away the heavy lines that had been weighing down her face. The presence of one of the Capitol's own had obviously shaken her but Pike was always there to steady her.
"Hmm I just don't know." She breathed back teasingly, turning in his arms to face him. She had no words for their relationship, no label for what they were and at that moment, it didn't bother her. That he was there was enough.

Jasmin watched his actions closely. It wasn't that she didn't trust him, it was more that she didn't quite trust herself not to react violently out of misplaced fear. She didn't know her triggers yet, and it seemed like she had a long way to go before she actually discovered them. She nuzzled head head into the crook of his neck. She desperately wanted to ask about Jewel, but she couldn't get her mouth to form the words.
"I heard Felix's with the President's daughter. At least he's happy.. not burdened by his past," She didn't sound choked up, but more nostalgic and empty.
Meanwhile, Pike was trying to understand her fears. He crossed his arms over her waist, only loosening them to gently pry her hands apart. "I knew you were seeing one of the soldiers behind my back." He joked. He didn't sound stressed or hoarse or aggressive like before. He sounded content. Blissfully content.

Damien bit down on his bottom lip, biting back a deep sigh when she brought up Felix. He had been hoping to avoid unpleasant topics which would include Felix, Hal, Jewel and James. She didn't need to hear about any of that right now.
He gently stroked her hair, nodding a bit. "He is happy, Min. He doesn't know what he left behind. Doesn't remember." He tried to be soothing about it, his voice soft.
--
Kestrel smiles up at Pike, his presence calming her fears. She laced their hands together, leaning into him, soft smile turning to a playful smirk. "Oh you know soldiers aren't really my speed. Too rowdy."

"Good." That is so not good! She replied merrily. "Hey, Damien? Can we... go to my old house here? I haven't been since... he was taken." She seemed to be having trouble finishing sentences. She wanted to doze off with her friend there, his fingers in her hair, but she needed that closure.
Pike's mouth formed a surprised "o." "So you and Delainey then, riiight?" He joked, trying to bite back laughter. "Yeah, they are pretty rowdy, huh?" He agreed offhandedly.

Damien smiled and nodded. He could tell she was tired, another side effect of the morphling. He gently scooped her up in his strong arms, walking to the head of the bed. He laid down and set her down next to him, broad hand still gently stroking her hair.
"Whatever you want Min. As soon as you're feeling a bit better we'll go, together." He promised, hoping she'd fall asleep. He'd stick around for probably a week before he'd really be missed.
--
Kestrel laughed and made a face at the mention of the theif. They were opposites in every way, her and Kes. "You and Delainey?" She countered back, another smirk falling softly into place on her full lips. She knew Pike didn't like Delainey or trust her.

"Nooo," Jasmin protested as he laid her down, "I'm infinitely better." She turned on her side so she could face him. She wasn't so great at fighting off sleep as of lately, so even with her protests, her eyes began to flutter.
Pike looked shocked and embarrassed all at once. "I mean... I wouldn't trust her with any of these guys. I'm surprised none of the beds are broken yet." A teensy part of him feared both Delainey and Jasmin, especially as a pair.

Damien chuckled soft and deep, still stroking her hair as he faced her, watching her eyes fluttering tiredly. It reminded him of when they were kids and Damien would have to talk her and Jewel into falling asleep. "Come on. I'll be here when you wake up. I can sleep here or in that bed over there."
--
Kestrel laughed softly, finding herself relaxing more and more in his presence. She smiled and leaned up to kiss him lightly. "Awh well I'm not worried about you." She trusted Pike totally.
