How long had it been?
Nearly half a year, he'd guess, since he'd been home. Probably longer.
Eleven was dead now. Very few citizens lurked about, but that didn't stop him from being dead silent as he creeped down the vacant streets. His hand was clasped onto the teenie tiny one of Flynn, who was still wobbly on the legs, nearly three years old. God, how time flies.
Every once in a while, the toddler would test his tongue and ask his father questions, to which Everson answered swiftly to silence the curiosity:
"Where mommy?"
"On her way, she had to take a later because of your aunts. They needed her for a bit."
"Where we goin', da?"
"To visit grandpa, you haven't met him yet."
"Who dat?"
"My dad, a great man. The mayor- not that you know what that is, Flynn."
His banter with the child was ridiculous, mainly because he was anxious. Everson hadn't seen his father in years, afraid of his words. It wasn't that is dad was violent, just normally disappointed. His son had gone from outcast to gay to having a teenage pregnancy- so one could understand why he man was so afraid of home.
That all didn't matter now. He was here and it was time to face the dragon.
Though, he had to wait for Azalea, it was her first time meeting his dad as well. So this would be fun. He stopped outside of the diner he'd told his girlfriend to meet him at, scooping up his son and playing with him.
Now to wait.
(I time skipped a bit because I don't remember where we were. Hope that's okay. I'll change it if not.)

Azalea had to deal with some things at home before leaving to meet Everson in Eleven. Ever since Rebecca had died, Starla had been more of wreck than she normally was, and Charity wasn't exactly fond of the idea of staying with her while she was away. But after a good hour or so of bribery and guilt-tripping, she finally convinced her to stay. And now the only thing she had to deal with was the anxiousness she had about meeting Everson's father for the first time. It was safe to say that she was a complete mess on the train, doing everything she could not to completely break down (not to mention the looks she got from the random strangers also on the train). Her anxiety hadn't been this bad for a long time, but she knew that she would be okay once she was with Everson. At least she hoped so.
After getting off of the train in Eleven, she wandered a bit before finally meeting Everson and Flynn. The little tyke ran up to her, and she kneeled down to pick him up. "How's my little guy?" she asked with a smile, then she looked at Everson. "You look...nervous," she said. She wasn't sure what reason he had to be nervous, as it was his own father. Their relationship may not have been great, but it wasn't horrible either. Maybe it was something else on his mind, she wasn't sure.

Flynn raced off the moment he spotted Azalea, sending Everson to his feet, eyes anxiously crawling over the woman. She'd grown so much since they'd met, became something even more magnificent- and that alone calmed him. Inhaling sharply as his son replied to her question with some rambling story about the train ride and what the two had done up to this point, and he patiently waited until the toddler was done to speak himself.
"I am," his voice trembled slightly, but he recovered himself as he took her hand, kissing her cheek softly as he explained, "Just a bit anxious, haven't seen him since- well." Since Ezra, but he didn't want to say that.
"It'll go well though," he hoped, squeezing her hand before scooping up their kid and asking, "Ready?"

A soft smile graced Azalea's lips as she squeezed Everson's hand back, then nodded. "Ready as I'm going to be," she said with a nervous laugh. But it would be okay, she was sure. Even if it didn't go well, Azalea knew that it wouldn't change her relationship with Everson. She was also extremely curious as to what Everson's father would be like. He had talked about him on occasion, but Azalea felt like the man was a bit of a mystery to her.
"Are you excited, Flynn?" she asked, making conversation with the toddler as a way to distract herself from her own anxiety. But she was excited too. Obviously her emotions just couldn't decide what they wanted to do to her, but that was usually how it went with Azalea.

A large, shaky grin pressed itself onto Everson's lips as he watched the love of his life make small talk with his son. He knew why, of course, but that's why he had fallen for her, right? For her quirks?
"So 'cited, mama," Fylnn babbled on, dragging them forward in the direction his father had said the Mayor's house was earlier, "You think he will like me?" The little boy's emerald eyes shone with hope, that ever present need as a child to be accepted by all. Everson managed to stay silent, gaze batting between the two as he waited for her to answer just as his son was.
Hopefully Azalea's answer wouldn't end up a lie once they arrived, the kid would be devastated.

"Of course," she said. "How could he not?" Though Azalea was still a little nervous that Everson's father might reject her and the child completely. After all, they probably weren't what he'd imagined his son's family would be like. They weren't married, and Azalea was starting to believe that maybe they never would be. But she really didn't mind either way because their love for each other was stronger than anything marriage could possibly bring them. Her eyes darted to Everson suddenly, a slight smile creeping up on her lips. Excitement started to mask her anxiety, and she felt a bit more confident now. It would all be okay, no matter what happened.

In all reality, Everson knew everything would go over well. He'd get a glare of disappointment simply on the fact that he had a child before he was married, and at such a young age. He had all intentions to propose to Azalea, but no time ever felt right, and he needed it to be perfect. There was ring, had been since Flynn hit one, but never ever did the question leave his lips. He practiced, but never could commit- out of fear, really. Of course she'd say yes, he knew that hands down, but he always knew he'd screw it up. Some way, some how.
A smile quickly found his lips, though, as she replied to their son, his eyes shimmering as the kid grinned from ear to ear.
Everything would be just fine, or at least he hoped- because they were here.
In front of the Mayor's house, and all Everson could do was pause and stare.
