{ } "Birds are loud," Raiden commented, at ease with the simplicity of their conversation- it comforted them that they could seem so normal, so safe, "But if you want one," he caved, having no power to say no to his girlfriend- he was an admittedly weak man when it came to being stern with her, "It is the Capitol, I'm sure they have a pink bird lying around somewhere." Pursing his lips lazily as he nudged in closer to her touch, he added, "Or they could figure out who to make one. Just for you. They totally would." A grin plastered to his lips, he let his eyes roam over the sky, the sun painting the soft blue with gentle rays of orange, promising them a beautiful day.
A soft sigh left his lips as she snuggled in closer, the warmth radiating from her more comforting than the normalcy of it all.
Well, talking about petty theft isn't actually normal by any standards, but it was safe enough for them. No real harm done.

{ } "Mm," Raiden hummed in response, gaze casting over the scenery as his lips molded around his next words- which were just as playful as anything else he'd said throughout the short span of the day, "Good point. Would you rather we steal a dog? Name it something adventurous and completely against the rules? Oh! Maybe we can go borrow our neighbor's bird, bet they wouldn't even notice." They sure did, the thing didn't shut up half the time it was in it's cage on the porch, crowing and squawking at the couple as they worked in the peace of their own backyard.
He was trying desperately to keep it all light, blatantly ignoring her comment about Jasmin because he knew where that road led. With the war's current state, and her sister's status, it was just better if they didn't touch the topic all together- made life easier to handle in times like this.
Lips curled around his straw in a solemn spout of silence, he sucked and slurped as the contents of his glass wiggled it's way into his mouth through his diligent suction. He hated straws, so much work when it came to shakes as thick as the one he'd been drinking down. He was about to give up the battle all together and snatch up a spoon when Apple leaned, and naturally, he dropped all of his thoughts and just inched closer. Like magnets, the two just stuck.
A grin snuck across his lips, and he just shook his head, eyes swatting back to the establishment behind them before he teasingly spoke, "Think you could make it, huh? If they notice, they may not let us back." Of course they would, Apple had been stealing silverware and platters alike from the little restaurant for a while now. Really, he'd be surprised if she hadn't told him she planned on it.
But her wanting to rebellious and all today, it just fit, and he didn't plan on stopping her from petty theft when what they did day to day was a much bigger crime anyhow.

{ } The sun had barely risen in the sky. Just a peak of light, a hint that there was something more- that beyond their crooked curtains and stolen darkness there was hope for a new day. New promises to make and new risks to take. The possibilities were endless. The day could end well, with them cradled in each other’s arms, or bad, where he’d be sent to sleep on the couch and listen to the cars hum past rather than the thud of her heart as she slept. He was rooting for a good day, as always, but wouldn’t hesitate to take the hurdles as they came. Up or down, he was here for it all. Thick and thin, he wasn’t going anywhere.
So when a soft prod to his ribcage and a gentle plead for a milkshake woke him at the wee hours of the morning, well, who was he to object to her wishes when she’d granted so many of his own? Swiftly, through a tired haze, he moved through the actions of getting ready. One foot at a time. An arm through this hole- his head through that one. Socks first, shoes next. A hand through his hair, keys shoved hastily into a pocket, and lips pressed tenderly to the temple of the one he loved.
Eight in the morning, and they were on their way to her favorite diner- for blended ice-cream.
He didn’t protest, didn’t even question it. Just soaked in the first few rays of light that the sun offered and ordered a vanilla milkshake after she had requested a strawberry. Nothing too spectacular this morning, his brain hasn’t even caught up with the fact he’s outside let alone would it be able to compute anything much more complex than the simplest of flavors.
Shake held lazily against his palm as his lover slotted against his side, he guided them outdoors, onto the patio of the small shop. A seat pulled out, and a seat taken. Silence fell over them for a moment, comforting and easy. His foot nudged hers out of habit as he slurped at the drink in his grip, eyes casting over their surroundings before settling on the blonde beside him.
Raiden knew why they were here- how could he not? Apple fidgeted at his side most nights, swept over with nightmares from her past, and ones yet to breathe in the light of day. Memories and imagination alike, it kept her up at night and he did his best to soothe her worries, but sometimes he wasn’t enough. Which is why he was so easily persuaded into rising from his own slumber and squirming in the fair morning air as they sucked at flimsy straws. He played her game, whatever it took to heighten her mood. Laughs shared and casually conversation swapped, he really wouldn’t have it any other way.
Tipping his head in her direction as he spoke, Raiden pretended to ponder it for a moment, licking at his lips to rid himself of the white coating he knew was lingering there as he tilted his head. What they did for a living was rebellious in the eyes of the law, no doubt about that, but to them? It was ritual, and it was work, and it was far from rebellious nature when it came to them. So this? Sneaking out of their home this early to lounge around with milkshakes? Well, he supposed so.
“Definitely too early. I mean, did you see the look the waitress gave us?” Raiden found himself chuckling, one hand gripping his stomach as he shook his head and grinned, “And rebellious, eh? How about we go have dinner for breakfast, wear our pajamas for the rest of the day, and go steal a cat, yeah?” He was teasing, a giggle at the back of his throat as he leaned more her way, at ease as a breeze drifted past.
Today was going to be a good day, he just knew it.

The clatter of a shattering glass sent his head spinning, feet carrying him instinctively to the source of the sound. Finding a worker cursing under her breath as she beant down and picked up the shreds of broken china, Raiden joined her, plucking up the pieces and stashing them in his hands. It was the most normal thing he'd done all day- help someone out. His eyes fell empty, dry pools of a serene blue and his motions were robotic. Honestly, not even he knew what had come over him, but there he was knelt beside this woman aiding her in the clean up process.
Once all the shards were picked up, he handed her his little pile to toss out and she thanked him for helping. Nodding in response, he watched her walk away before his head snapped towards the voice cooing at him. Apple, of course. Glaring at her sharply, he cocked his head and stood where he was, refusing to move. "I walked," he said simply, meaning it. Really, all he'd done that day was stalk the streets, mind on an endless loops of 'what if's and 'she can't really be gone's. Nothing special at all.
Crossing his arms over his chest, he didn't budge, just watched. Raiden was just really broken, something no one could ever truly fix.

"Don't tell me what to do," Raiden growled at the girl, resorting to childish notions to prevent himself from breaking down. If he distracted himself enough, it didn't happen. Rhode didn't exist, not now. "You will not," his tone took a threatening tone, eyes squinted as he peered at her angrily. He didn't care for her words, in fact, didn't really care for anything anyone said nowadays. It just blew right over his head. Like that, the underlying meaning in her words. Normally, he would have jumped on the joke, but now? Sex wasn't even a thought.
Too busy hopping out of his seat to notice her blush, Raiden zoomed to a table with salt and pepper decorated lazily on top of it. Snatching them up, he inspected them, smirking as if he'd been struck with an ingenious thought on how he could use them.
That was the last thing on his mind, though. All he could think was now. What was he doing now?

There was no stopping the chuckle that brushed over Harley's lips as he just caught Apple's ending statement. Despite knowing exactly what was going on with his brother, he found it to be funny that she was the one to find him wandering the streets. A sigh drowning out his previous sound of joy, he agreed- knowing all too well where this was headed. Raiden was in a warped state of mind, and that was never good. "I'll be there in a sec," and then he hung up and got ready to leave. Luckily he was in the Capitol for the time being.
Raiden shot a glare at Apple as she continued to talk on the phone and treat him like a baby. He was perfectly fine, why couldn't she see that? Shaking his head slowly, he tried to get the attention of a waitress to no avail.

"Food," he mumbled under his breath, words barely coherent, "She liked food." Feet in a stout stride, he veered off towards the little cafe, a bewildered look casting in his eyes. It was ridiculous, though, how he halted so quickly, his head snapping back at the girl as she accused him of using drugs. "How preposterous," Raiden growled in a mock posh accent, hands on his hips as his sanity drained from his ears, "I wouldn't do such a thing."
And he hadn't. He sold drugs and assorted liquors, but rarely did he do them. No, he was just high off of denial and regret.
Just then, his bloodshot crystal eyes narrowed in on her phone, a sliver of recognition, of himself returned as he straightened out. Lips parted, he knew all too well what she was doing, but he couldn't stop her.
Like that, as he went to speak, another met voice met her ear- one far too gruff and deep to be an ounce of the boy before her.
"'Ello?"
Harley.

"No, no, no," Raiden quipped, yanking his hand out of hers, a scowl peppering his previously cheeky face, "Don't touch. You'll burn. Like her, like them. Don't touch." He was deadly serious, he'd comply, but refused to be too close, admittedly scared of her fate. Though, the blonde male didn't reply to her questions. Yes, his girlfriend, and no, he wouldn't tell her as they walked- for he couldn't.
There was no memory of what happened, he had repressed it.

"I have no home," he purred, eyes glassy and moist. Raiden was utterly clueless to everything, reality yet to smack him upside the head.
"She's gone," he cheered, a misplaced smile on his lips.
He should be crying, hurt, or even stung, but he didn't get that memo.

It was so eerily unnatural, everything he did was wrong. It wasn't him. Any trace of the playful drug dealer with a desperate urge to love was smothered with the heel of a Peacekeepers military issued boot, killing off the Raiden who was.
The Raiden who is was like an escaped mental hospital patient more than anything else the way he leaned forward, nose brushing the blonde female's as his minty breath smacked her face- his eyes hollow and glazed over as he murmured, "You can't be close. You can't be like the others." Pulling away, he sombered past her, head rattling on his shoulders as he marched on.
Oblivious.

As the coins clattered onto the table, confusion masked the teen's face, her words slipping in one ear and out the other. His adam's apple bobbed ever so slightly as he eyed her, his suspicion slowly wearing away with each given moment. "Cute, eh?" He settled on jeering, his body hunched forward as he glared at her dainty figure, "Well, just because you said so- I'll make sure I stay away from all that bad mumbo jumbo, hm." Lies. Ha, like that'd ever even happen. Drugs were in his blood- not literally in this case. He'd been born into it, raised with it. That was all he knew. Finally addressing the coins, he simply shook his head, his next statement controversially sweet, "Nah, hun. I don't need it. I take virginity, not cash," he didn't wink as he normally would have- he loved sex and all, but wasn't willing to get locked up for screwing a minor when he had plenty of others serving themselves to him. "Plus you're still payin' for your dinner." He used his knuckles to push the coins back her way, following with, "Keep it." Now, he wasn't filthy rich, but was he by no means poor. His business had cash flowing from all directions. He was pretty sturdy financially, but her- she didn't look like it. To him at least. His lips twisting into a purse, he slid his empty plate to the end of the table, his mouth setting to the straw. They weren't done yet, Mia would be bringing desert out for him soon. In the mean time, he glanced out the window and made conversation, "Sixteen, huh? How's that treating you?" He didn't ask out of concern or curiosity, but simply to fill the void, the silence he hated so much. He didn't care what she had to say, but her voice was better than nothing. Silence led to thoughts, and thinking was something he couldn't afford. Not this time 'round.

Lounging on the back of his cushioned seat, Raiden spun a fry between his index finger and thumb, popping a crisper shred of potato into his mouth as he let out a low cackle. His lips pulled back in a large grin as he squinted her way, his leg raised, foot resting on the booth with his knee to his chest. It wasn't even funny- what she said, but the moment was tense and that's all he thought to do. "In Six?" He arched a brow, shaking his head, "Nah. All we have are trains and drugs. Plenty of each, not too much food though- enough, I suppose. Not like here though, fish in the hundreds to feed this lot of souls." He easily slid the mention of drugs in, but left out the fact it was him and his brother supplying. No reason to bring it up. "I don't even know anything about you," he muttered as he shoved another fry in, following up with a question before he shut himself up with another bite of burger, "How old even are you?"

Memory of an elephant, intelligence of an owl, but the attention span of a goldfish. His lips had parted to ask for further information, for more details to back up her story, but the impending march of feet stole his voice and sent his head spinning. Mia had that affect not only on him, but on any man- some women. Pushing himself up with his arm, Jas faded into a shadow in his peripheral, her hiding her face not even catching his eye as excitement etched into his features- not because of the busty female, but because of the food. He was starving. Licking his lips, his eyes followed the brunette all the way around, eagerness painted into his actions as he squirmed in place. "Thanks, babe," he muttered as his usual 'burger and fries' flew onto his place mat, his lean figure melting away as his fingers molded into the bun. Raiden didn't wait a moment to shove the food into his mouth, scarfing it down as his lady friend swayed off. Eyes rolling back in sheer delight, he moaned- a very common noise to leak out of his lips. Mouth still quite full, he gestured towards his 'date', mumbling through a mess of meat and potato, "Come on, girl, eat." It wasn't meant to be rude, he simply couldn't say much between bites. Food, just- he nearly loved it more than sex. Nearly.

"You do that," Raiden managed a light chuckle, his fingers creeping across the table towards his glass. Hooking his limbs around the damp glass, he dragged it his way, but he didn't sip on it. No, his lips didn't even touch it. He simply just brought it closer, for no reason really. Sighing, his toes tapped against the tiles beneath their booth, his eyes studying hers hesitantly. Who was she? Why was she out and about so late on a night like this? Why had she agreed to eat with him? Then stay after the waitress fondled him and he rejected to pay? Why was she here? Setting his elbows on the table to bring him closer, his let his gaze lighten, his mind settling on a single question. He waited to ask it though, allowing the smirk on his lips to cover any hesitation he had prior as his arms rested on the marble table. "So what is it that you do?" His voice was deep, his eye contact firm. He wouldn't let any sign of false speech get past him. He had to be sure he was safe in her presence.

"And?" He posed the question, what was so bad about him beating on his side of the table? "What? You'll what if I defend myself against your grubby fingers again? Hm? I was simply warning you, no harm done." Raiden contained composure, which was hard considering how much this female irritated him. That in itself was odd. He was a ladies man, so one irked him, it was the beginning of the apocalypse.
What was really weird, though, was the fact that he was skittish to her touch. As if he could just tell she was bad news- worse than him. It's happened before, saved his life, but was he just superstitious? This 'Jas' character couldn't be all that bad. Sure, she was small, but he's had tons of fiesty minis. On the other hand, she wasn't the most gorgeous girl, but she was by no means less than beautiful. He wasn't making sense, not even to himself.
Just stop over thinking and roll with it, man.
Leaving his hands in his pockets, he didn't bother to touch his drink once the waitress brought them round, leaving with a wink and a 'the food will be out shortly'. Great, the sooner this little 'date' would be over and he could get this chilling feeling to leave.
Something was up, he just couldn't tell what it was.
