Getting back into the swing of things was near impossible for such a wild soul; she tried with all her might, but just as her sister, she required freedom. The back-and-forth motion of her from the Capitol to District 9 was dizzying, but the cost to carry all of her luggage on a 'craft was too much to haul over at once.
A pink, frilled shopping bag was held limp in her hand, her lavender skater skirt dancing against her chafing thighs. Apple appeared crestfallen, a permanent line pressed between her wide forehead. The boy in front of her walked with a cocky slowness, and it took all her might not to lash out with stick fingers.
Quickening her pace in her low, chunky heeled leather booties, she widened her eyes.
She slammed into a male figure, arms wrapping around his back. "Ray!" She cawed, bouncing on her heels. A familiar face, an easy pace.
This was all she needed.

It wasn't meant to be this way. He wasn't meant to be here, alone. Rhode was meant to be at his side, holding his hand, keeping him strong, thanking him for saving her. For keeping her safe. For risking his life to preserve hers. That's not what happened though. No, when he came home, Raiden wasn't welcomed by his girlfriend's open arms, not even close. All he got was a sad glare from his older brother and a note. Turns out the little lie he'd told Marcel about Rhode being killed for theft came true. She was gone. Dead. Gone for good and the last thing he'd said to her had been a lie. He promised he was in Three, not One trying to persuade a gang leader that she was deceased, and now it was real. It was real and she was dead.
Now the logically thing would to break down and cry considering his soul mate was now gone forever, after he'd specifically told her everyone who gets too close too him dies. His mom, dad, uncle, friends, even his dog. All dead. Never coming back, but he'd still let himself get attached, now look at her, in a box. Buried. He never ever said goodbye.
But he didn't cry. Didn't go back to self-harming, not that anyone knew he even did that. Didn't try to commit suicide. Didn't even mourn.
Raiden broke.
He grinned, ear to ear, but it wasn't right. It was shattered, sorrow filled and manic. He'd lost his wits, and he had no intention on finding them.
He was gone, just like everyone he'd ever loved- besides Harley, that guy refused to leave, for which he was grateful for.
The boy had been District hopping for months, never staying in one place too long, rarely even sober. Now, he wasn't drinking, but smoking his brother's concoctions, high was the only way. So when he was prancing around the Capitol streets, it really wasn't that odd. What was odd though, was the pair of arms tossed around his torso. Those weren't his. Frowning, he studied the feminine hands clasped around his belly.
It was only when the voice purred, well more like screeched, his name, it hit him. "Apple, dear," that wasn't him, he never spoke like this, it was too jolly. Too empty, "Now don't get too close, you don't want to end up like the rest of them." He didn't look behind him at all, just stood still, in place, staring ahead with his glossy, dead fish eyes.
He was hollow, nothing to live for, nothing to die for.

Oblivious to the death of his beloved, she crossed the sidewalk to plop herself in front of him. He looked detached, deranged...
"What?" Apple sing-songed somberly. She was puzzled as to why he was tip-toeing around her. "What're you saying, Ray-Ray?" Resisting the urge to lift her hand and cup his face, she studied him, moony eyed with concern.

It was so eerily unnatural, everything he did was wrong. It wasn't him. Any trace of the playful drug dealer with a desperate urge to love was smothered with the heel of a Peacekeepers military issued boot, killing off the Raiden who was.
The Raiden who is was like an escaped mental hospital patient more than anything else the way he leaned forward, nose brushing the blonde female's as his minty breath smacked her face- his eyes hollow and glazed over as he murmured, "You can't be close. You can't be like the others." Pulling away, he sombered past her, head rattling on his shoulders as he marched on.
Oblivious.

"Ray," Her voice was hoarse, "let's get you home, Ray." Apple said softly, awkwardly, as she'd never been taught on comforting people - especially the mentally worn. She walked behind him with a skip in her step, tongue poking into the absence of tooth in her jaw.
"Can you, like, elaborate? What happened?"

"I have no home," he purred, eyes glassy and moist. Raiden was utterly clueless to everything, reality yet to smack him upside the head.
"She's gone," he cheered, a misplaced smile on his lips.
He should be crying, hurt, or even stung, but he didn't get that memo.

"Your girlfriend?" Apple guessed, hand falling into his so she could steer him toward safety. "Come on, babydoll. We need-ta get you somewhere warmer. Tell me what happened while we walk, okay?" She cooed.

"No, no, no," Raiden quipped, yanking his hand out of hers, a scowl peppering his previously cheeky face, "Don't touch. You'll burn. Like her, like them. Don't touch." He was deadly serious, he'd comply, but refused to be too close, admittedly scared of her fate. Though, the blonde male didn't reply to her questions. Yes, his girlfriend, and no, he wouldn't tell her as they walked- for he couldn't.
There was no memory of what happened, he had repressed it.

Taking out her phone, she slammed in her second lifeline's number: Harley's. Waiting patiently for it to ring as Raiden prattled away, she gestured for a diner with crooked outdoor seating. "Ray-Ray, let's eat something, yeah?" She smiled in a faux-positive mess of fear for him.
"Ray-Ray, did you take something?" She dropped her voice as the phone began to ring.

"Food," he mumbled under his breath, words barely coherent, "She liked food." Feet in a stout stride, he veered off towards the little cafe, a bewildered look casting in his eyes. It was ridiculous, though, how he halted so quickly, his head snapping back at the girl as she accused him of using drugs. "How preposterous," Raiden growled in a mock posh accent, hands on his hips as his sanity drained from his ears, "I wouldn't do such a thing."
And he hadn't. He sold drugs and assorted liquors, but rarely did he do them. No, he was just high off of denial and regret.
Just then, his bloodshot crystal eyes narrowed in on her phone, a sliver of recognition, of himself returned as he straightened out. Lips parted, he knew all too well what she was doing, but he couldn't stop her.
Like that, as he went to speak, another met voice met her ear- one far too gruff and deep to be an ounce of the boy before her.
"'Ello?"
Harley.

"Order something nice and yummy, Ray-Ray," Apple baby-talked, face beating a blush as Harley picked up, hearing the end of her statement. "Harley, there's something super wrong with Raiden. I need you to pick us up. We're on the corner of Diamond and Couture."
She gnawed on the edge of her mouth.
"Ray, pick me something nice to eat too, mmkay?" It was all distraction. She didn't know how much longer she had with him even semi-coherent.

There was no stopping the chuckle that brushed over Harley's lips as he just caught Apple's ending statement. Despite knowing exactly what was going on with his brother, he found it to be funny that she was the one to find him wandering the streets. A sigh drowning out his previous sound of joy, he agreed- knowing all too well where this was headed. Raiden was in a warped state of mind, and that was never good. "I'll be there in a sec," and then he hung up and got ready to leave. Luckily he was in the Capitol for the time being.
Raiden shot a glare at Apple as she continued to talk on the phone and treat him like a baby. He was perfectly fine, why couldn't she see that? Shaking his head slowly, he tried to get the attention of a waitress to no avail.

Harley agreed to come to their aid. She relaxed some with that notation.
"Ray, can you, like stay in your seat? I will tie you down. I've had practice," She winked at him, trying to catch a sense of himself by noting their subtle, subtexted sexual frustration. She arranged the bottles of ketchup, busying herself with mindless activity to try and fight the blush that came with her words. She was never one to act embarrassed.
But Raiden was different. He always was.
But so was she.

"Don't tell me what to do," Raiden growled at the girl, resorting to childish notions to prevent himself from breaking down. If he distracted himself enough, it didn't happen. Rhode didn't exist, not now. "You will not," his tone took a threatening tone, eyes squinted as he peered at her angrily. He didn't care for her words, in fact, didn't really care for anything anyone said nowadays. It just blew right over his head. Like that, the underlying meaning in her words. Normally, he would have jumped on the joke, but now? Sex wasn't even a thought.
Too busy hopping out of his seat to notice her blush, Raiden zoomed to a table with salt and pepper decorated lazily on top of it. Snatching them up, he inspected them, smirking as if he'd been struck with an ingenious thought on how he could use them.
That was the last thing on his mind, though. All he could think was now. What was he doing now?

Apple lowered her head, peering through her hair at Raiden, careful not to rouse him. The sudden clank of a fallen glass startled her into jumping in her seat. She flicked her gaze toward the general direction of a sound. Harmless. A cracked glass, was all it was. "Raiden, you wanna tell me what you've done all day? Tell me all about it?" She expected rebuttal, but she was just trying to keep him in close proximity of her.
She wanted to dissolve a pill underneath her tongue to relax.
No. Wait until Harley gets here.
The younger woman had an idea sparking in her mind. She lifted her purse, a pill bottle jangling inside filled with odds and ends from the pharmaceutical world. As a waitress clanked the food down, she dropped two pills into Raiden's drink. Downers. He'd be out of it still if he drank it, but less irritable.
